The House
Inner Sanctum: A Dialogue Across Centuries
Behind the 80-meter timber facade of the Pagenhaus lies an interior that treats history not as a static museum, but as a living canvas. The approach begins in the recently restored staircase (Treppenhaus), where soft, heritage-inspired sage and gray tones pay homage to Baroque elegance, highlighting stripped timber floors and the sweeping curves of the historic balustrade.
Following a comprehensive full-scale renovation (Grundsanierung), the apartment was reimagined as a refined private sanctuary. Retaining key architectural mid-century features—such as original 1940s doors and the classic vintage bathroom sink—established a strong narrative foundation. The design effortlessly layers period charm with modern curation:
Baroque Echoes: Warm ochre wall panels, glowing backlit silhouettes, and gilt-framed antique mirrors offer a quiet nod to the Electorate’s regal past.
Textural Depth: Iridescent, hand-crafted dark tiles in the bathroom contrast beautifully with rich, warm pine floorboards and bespoke built-in woodwork beneath the mansard eaves.
Eclectic Curation: A classic Biedermeier daybed upholstered in bold botanical coral print, a grand piano anchoring the living space, and crisp modern lighting create an atmospheric, layered home.
The result is a residential interior within the Pagenhaus that seamlessly bridges courtly history, mid-century detail, and contemporary living.
